I’m currently working on my master’s thesis, which focuses on applying reinforcement learning (RL) to energy management in a South African context. This field of research can involve using RL to optimise energy generation, distribution, storage, and consumption to maximise efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain system reliability. It is a new and exciting area for me. My previous research includes work in theoretical high energy physics, and I completed a year of coursework for the MSc physics program at ETH Zürich. During that time, I realised I wanted to apply mathematics in a more practical and versatile way, which led me to pursue a thesis in machine learning. I’m particularly excited about exploring RL’s potential in energy management and am eager to make a meaningful contribution to this field.
